Some people adore shopping for “antiques” in America. My mom even owned an “Antique” shop for a few years. But what technically constitutes an “antique” item? When we’ve gone into antique shops in America where we laugh, then cringe, at the things we remember from our childhoods. Does that mean WE are antiques?

America is a baby aged country compared to other countries. While traveling in the Tuscan region of Italy, we decided to rent a car and visit the Arezzo Antique Fair. This gigantic antique market has been held one time per month since 1968!!! With more than 500 exhibitors, this market winds through street after street after street in the town of Arezzo. The first city wall of Arezzo dates back presumably to the 4th century, but it is likely that the city is MUCH older. Yes, Arezzo itself, is an antique. Look at the background of some of these photos as well as the foreground items.

If you are planning a trip to Tuscany, Arezzo with a population of nearly 100,000 people might be a great base to fan out through the countryside. Just know that the population multiplies significantly on the first weekend of the month with the Antique Fair. Whether you like cooking, sports, furniture, musical instruments, tools, décor, or any other aspect of historical living, there are items for you to adore at the fair. Additionally, there are clothing and jewelry stands that sell new or handmade items. And, of course, there are plenty of food vendors to keep your Tuscan energy alive for all the walking. We loved our day shopping the Arezzo Antique Fair.
