RETIREMENT
6/5/20251 min read
PROs:
1. My sleep bank is full most of the time
2. More sexual energy
3. It’s easier to cook healthy meals and treats
4. My time belongs to me, the job doesn’t own it
5. I can choose how to use my social energy
6. Time to spend on projects that have piled up
7. Time to work on relationships
8. More “I want to do” vs “I gotta do”

CONs:
1. More time to read the negative news
2. Less tasks or demands to push you through that bad night of sleep
3. No excuse to avoid undesired social events
4. More time to face the emotional side of purging or downsizing
5. Less motivational energy on some days to initiate tasks
6. Too much time to mentally dwell on the coulda-shoulda-woulda of life
BONUS: Cognitive demand - As a pro, and a con.
When you are overworked and overstressed, your cognitive capacity is reduced, and tasks can be hard to complete. When you are retired, you tend to have the capacity, but you don’t always have tasks that challenge your cognitive load. In other words, you have time to think, but not enough content to think about.
