When you retire, you might spend more time looking at social media. One day before we left on our own travels, our favorite Youtubers posted a meet-up opportunity a few hours away from our home. Looking at each other we said, “Of course! We're retired. There is nothing else on our calendar tomorrow."
Like us, Brian and Carrie started dating late in life. Unlike us, Brian and Carrie sold everything to travel the world in their early 50's. They weren't born rich, nor did they have millions of dollars gaining interest and paying them huge dividends. Carrie and Brian were average workers with grown children who broke out of the day-to-day consumer-driven lifestyle. Through their YouTube channel over the last few years, we learned many valuable travel lessons from their lived experiences. We still watch them from the road.
The impromptu meet-up they hosted drew about fifty people into the drizzly Washington State pub. It turns out that gathering with other like-minded retired folks, who also like to travel, was a fantastic way to spend a day. We talked about common interests, shared tips for travel, and even exchanged some phone numbers for WhatsApp connections down the road. As we shared our travel itinerary, we were encouraged by the positive feedback. Since we had yet to start our travel journey, we were even surprised by how knowledgeable we came across to others.
We've personally met influencers from two of our favorite channels. If you want to see who we learn from, check-out our story Best Travel Vloggers. Also, you can read about our Chance Encounter in Lucca. We have been excited by these impromptu opportunities and hope for many more to come our way.
