A survey of 1,008 married American couples conducted by the Western & Southern Financial Group in March 2026 revealed that 67 percent of married couples can’t agree on their retirement plans.

Despite being married, travel is one item that couples disagree about. After years in the workforce, it is common for one person in a relationship to be more of a home body when the other wants to explore. While traveling, we met a 62-year-old woman who was taking a break from her marriage because she needed to travel and he had no interest. So, if married couples can disagree on travel, then other travel companions might have difficulty initiating common travel plans beyond a location.

We developed this Travel Compatibility Quiz to help friends, lovers, and married couples plan their next vacation through the discussion of eight common factors which drive vacation plans. Take this quiz with a partner and have open conversations about each answer. Find flexibility and common ground when answers vary.
